Tournament Format & Structure

The tournament format and structure will vary depending on the specific event. Below are the common formats used on our platform. The chosen format for each tournament will be clearly outlined in the tournament description.

3.2.1

Tournament Types

3.2.1.1 Single Elimination

  • In a Single Elimination tournament, participants are eliminated after one loss. Only the winners progress to the next round until a champion is crowned.
  • Round Structure:
    • Participants are paired randomly in the first round.
    • After each round, only winners move on to the next round.
    • The tournament continues until there is a final winner.
    • Example: If there are 16 players, the winner will be determined after 4 rounds (16 → 8 → 4 → 2 → 1).

3.2.1.2 Double Elimination

  • Double Elimination gives participants two chances before being eliminated. If a player loses once, they move to the Losers’ Bracket, and only after a second loss will they be eliminated.
  • Bracket Structure:
    • Winners’ Bracket: All players start here. After a loss, players move to the Losers’ Bracket.
    • Losers’ Bracket: Players who lose in the Winners’ Bracket compete here for a chance to reach the final.
    • The final match is between the winner of the Winners’ Bracket and the winner of the Losers’ Bracket. If the Losers’ Bracket winner wins, an additional match may be played to determine the overall champion.

3.2.1.3 Round Robin

  • In a Round Robin tournament, each participant competes against every other participant at least once. This format ensures that each player plays multiple games.
  • Match Points:
    • Players earn points based on wins and losses.
    • At the end of all matches, the player/team with the highest number of points wins.
    • If there is a tie, Tie-Breaker Rules (explained below) will apply.

3.2.1.4 Swiss System

  • In a Swiss System tournament, players are paired with others who have similar win-loss records after each round. No one is eliminated, and the number of rounds is predetermined.
  • Pairing and Progression:
    • In the first round, players are paired randomly.
    • In subsequent rounds, players with similar performance (win-loss records) are paired.
    • After the set number of rounds, the player/team with the best overall record is declared the winner.

3.2.1.5 Group Stage + Knockout

  • This format combines a Group Stage (Round Robin) and Knockout Stage (Single or Double Elimination).
  • Group Stage: Players/teams are divided into groups. Each group plays in a Round Robin format.
  • Knockout Stage: The top players/teams from each group advance to the Knockout Stage (Single or Double Elimination) to determine the final winner.
